Grace Ann McLaughlin, born in Norfolk on March 5, 1987, passed away on May 18, 2019. She was a 2005 graduate of Granby High School and attended Christopher Newport University.
She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Rita Claire and William Henry McLaughlin, Jr, RADM USN Retired.
Grace is survived by her son, Tyler Matthew Jacquin, her mother, Kathleen Diane McLaughlin, father, Albert Patrick McLaughlin (Pat), sisters, Sara McLaughlin Hahne(Matthew) and Mary Claire McLaughlin, maternal grandparents Mary Ann and Thomas Delano Eisenhauer, her nephews, Dylan Patrick Hahne, Luke David Hahne, Jordan Matthew Hahne and many other family and friends.
She will be remembered by all of those who loved her for her free spirit, big laugh, profound love of music, contagious smile, quick wit, a beautiful voice and her warm heart. As Grace dealt with numerous health issues throughout most of her life, she demonstrated a herculean inner strength, resilience, courage and sacrifice. Her greatest joy was without question her time spent with her son, Tyler, who has already shown he inherited his mother’s courage, perseverance and empathy.
Grace’s legacy will be one of love and support for all she knew. She brought out the best in all of us.
Her family will be hosting a casual celebration of life at the Norfolk Botanical Garden on Thursday May 30 at 1 p.m. in the Rose Garden Hall.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to the nonprofit Edge Hill Recovery Retreat Center by clicking HERE.
Well I looked into the sky for my anthem, and the words and the music came through, but words and music will never touch the beauty that I’ve seen looking into you and that’s true.

From one McLaughlin family across the globe to another. Whilst I do not know your family, I also have a daughter called Grace and found this notice by accident. I wish your family all the very best in this difficult time and I think Grace knew her Tyler was the brightest candle of them all. Take care.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I loved Grace’s dry and sarcastic humor. When we worked together, she had this biting wit that I enjoyed being around. When I attempted a bad pun, or tried to play a workplace prank on Grace, she had this way of shouting my name with this faked disdain…while trying to hide her smile. I can still hear her shouting my name and seeing that suppressed grin. She’s a beautiful soul that will be missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have not met Grace. However, I heard so much about this lovely person from my son Laksmankanth who worked with her. So gentle so kind and just a lovely person he would share. My prayers are that her family finds strength to carry on and to remember all the wonderful times!

Her smile lit up the room, her hugs made you feel like family, her kindness shone through the pain. Blessed to have known Grace, if only for a short time. RIP sweet girl.

Although I did not know Grace very well, I still remember learning from her in our Honors English class and at times being in awe of her insightful comments about the works we studied. Grace would sometimes pop up in her mom’s classroom while I was taking AP Calculus and would say “hi” to us. Ms. Kathleen McLaughlin was one of my favorite teachers at Granby because of her empathy and compassion, which are qualities she passed on to Grace. I am so sorry for your loss, but hope she is now at peace. I hope the family and her close friends will also find peace overtime with this loss.
