Hermenegildo (Hermie) Mallari passed away Friday, September 3, 2021 in Norfolk, Virginia with his wife by his side. Hermie was born April 13, 1933 to Guillermo and Cecilia Mallari in Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines.
Hermie enlisted with US Navy while in the Philippines and became a United States citizen. He met the love of his life, Eleanor (Elly), and they were married in Philadelphia, PA. Hermie was a Vietnam War Veteran and retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service with the US Navy. He continued his career as an Industrial Hygienist until he retired again in 1990. With Eleanor, Hermie raised two children, Kathryn and Stephen. Hermie was a devout Catholic and enjoyed bowling, walking, and gardening.
Hermie is predeceased by his parents, Guillermo and Cecilia, his siblings, Armando, Librado, Melchor, Victoria, Agueda, Ignacia, Leandra, and Marcelina.
Hermie is survived by his wife Eleanor, his daughter Kathryn and husband Douglas, his son Stephen and wife Monica, and their children Kanoa and Kaimalina along with his sister Guillermina, nieces, nephews, other extended family and loving friends.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Dr, Virginia Beach. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Boulevard, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. A reception will be held immediately after the funeral mass at the Altmeyer Funeral Home – Southside Chapel. Hermie will be interred at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
