Howard “Butch” Wayne Scroggins, 71, of Chesapeake, passed away peacefully, Wednesday August 5, 2020 after a long battle with lung cancer.
Butch was born in Wewoka, OK on February 19, 1949, and was son of late Howard Wittington Scroggins and Helen Lee Coursey.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Betty Scroggins; children, Fred Frogosa, Clair Frogosa, Jaried Frogosa, Kathy Frogosa, Aylene Almozara, Stanely Almozara, Charlene Castillo and Jessie Castillo. He is also survived by his sister, Melody Butler; niece, Tina Kolp as well as 12 grandchildren.
After high school, Butch joined the U.S. Navy and retired in 1991 after 20 years of patriotic service. From there, Butch continued his career as a pipe fitter with AST. After working for many years, he retired for the second time in 2016 to spend time with family and travel the world with his lovely wife, Betty. He loved gardening, baking homemade chocolate chip cookies and banana bread with walnuts. Butch was a devoted husband and father who always thought about others’ needs ahead of his own.
Lastly, Butch served as a Deacon at the Norfolk and Virginia Beach Seventh Day Adventist Church. After his first diagnosis in 2016, his faith never wavered, but rather, grew stronger bringing much glory to God. Butch loved God with all his heart, embraced all of his promises and looks forward to Christ’s soon return. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
The funeral service will be conducted at 12 pm, Friday August 14, 2020 at Altmeyer Funeral Home Chesapeake Chapel, 929 S. Battlefield Blvd Chesapeake 23322. Interment will follow in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Pastor Willie J. Boyd, Jr., Ph.D will officiate.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6pm to 8 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to 425 Heartfield Dr. Chesapeake, VA 23322.
