Hunter McCoy Harbeson

July 26, 1991 - May 15, 2020

Hunter McCoy Harbeson, 28, passed away peacefully May 15th, 2020 surrounded by his loving family

Hunter was born July 26th, 1991 to Jeff and Jacqueline Harbeson in Greenville, North Carolina. He was a gentle spirit with the heart of a warrior. Gifted with athleticism, good looks, and an affable personality, Hunter enjoyed his young life. He played football from Little League to Middle School. Serving his country was something Hunter was very proud of and took seriously. He graduated from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham Virginia and achieved the rank of Captain, where was awarded the class of 2010 Leadership Award.  Soon after graduating from Hargrave, Hunter enlisted in the Army, graduated from Infantry School at Ft. Benning Georgia and served his county proudly in the U.S. Army six years. Following his time in the U.S. Army, Hunter explored a number of career options. He worked for a plumbing company, worked for his dad in funeral service, and finally found his calling working as an Irrigation Specialist, working outside and not tied to an office. He loved being outside, going to the beach with friends, and working on his car. Hunter had a smile that could light up and room and his witty personality drew many many friends. One of those close friends, Nicole, became his wife and were married in November of 2019. Those who knew Hunter would tell you he would do anything to help those he loved. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend. He will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish his memory is: wife, Nicole Harbeson of Norfolk, Virginia; father, Jeffrey McCoy Harbeson and Wife Candice Gee Harbeson, of Phoenix, Arizona; mother, Jacqueline Hunter Harbeson of Roanoke, Virginia; brother, Jackson McCoy Harbeson of Roanoke, Virginia; paternal grandfather, Everett McCoy Harbeson of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina; paternal grandmother, Brenda McMurry and husband Jay; maternal grandmother, Diana Watson and husband Buddy of Charlotte North Carolina; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends will also miss Hunter’s happy go lucky demeanor.

A celebration of Hunter’s life will be held at 1:00 pm, Sunday, May 17th, 2020 at Altmeyer Funeral Home with a visitation to follow until 4:00 pm. Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, May 18h, 2020 at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Norfolk S.P.C.A. What our families say...

In my opinion, there is no better facility in Virginia than Altmeyer Funeral Homes. Not only was Chris Sisler there to hold my hand every step of the way, his family members were holding the door on the day of the funeral to help and encourage me. I will never forget their grace. He led me and my family through the process as a personal friend and neighbor, and as the ultimate professional.
