Irene Eckert Muhler of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away on October 20, 2020.
Irene was born in Rahway, New Jersey on March 10, 1930 and grew up in Nutley, NJ. She was predeceased by her parents, William I. Eckert and Irene E. Langstaff and her brother, William H. Eckert.
Born during the depression, she excelled in school and was the first in her family to attend college through an academic scholarship. She went on to be a buyer of women’s clothing in Newark, NJ and New York, NY. After raising her children, she would reinvent herself and create a successful career at Ingersoll Rand in Woodcliff Lake, NJ.
While at Fairleigh Dickinson University, she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Muhler. They married and settled in River Vale, NJ where they raised their three children. Her greatest sadness came with the loss of Bob in 1984. Family was everything to Irene and her greatest joys came from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Irene is survived by her daughters, Susan Muhler Graves and Beth Muhler Armistead (Leigh); her son, Robert T. Muhler, Jr.; her grandchildren, Patrick Graves (Marisa), Elizabeth Atherton (Chad), Thomas Armistead (Allison), Ethan Armistead and her great granddaughters, Savannah and Lila.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
