Isabel Maud "Peggy" Pogoloff

February 28, 1930 - April 16, 2020

Isabel Maud “Peggy” Pogoloff, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16th due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease.  Mrs. Pogoloff had recently celebrated her 90th birthday on February 28th with her family at Brightview Senior Living in Newport News, VA.  She was born in Plattsburgh, NY the only child of Colonel Arthur Sanderson and Ethel Grace (Gibbs) Kinsman, US Army Retired.  At six months of age she went by ship to the Philippines with her parents, living at Camp John Hay for three years.  This was the first of many moves as the daughter of a career Army officer, and the probable nexus of her lifelong love of travel and exploration of different cultures.  In that wander-lust are echoes of her ancestry, as the descendant of sixteen Mayflower passengers including Myles Standish, John Alden, Priscilla Mullins, William Brewster, John Howland, Elizabeth Tilley, and Stephen Hopkins.

She is the widow of Colonel Boris Pogoloff, US Army Retired.  Boris and Peggy were high school sweethearts at Bound Brook High School, Bound Brook, NJ and later went to neighboring colleges; him to Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) and her to Beaver College (now Arcadia University).  They were married August 7, 1950 in Silver Spring, MD.  After graduation from the University of Oklahoma in 1952 and his appointment as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Field Artillery, they spent the next 28 years traveling throughout the United States and Europe as a military family.  The Pogoloff’s retired in Winter Park, FL in 1980, where Colonel Pogoloff predeceased her on August 16, 1989.

Left to mourn her passing are her devoted children Karen L. Pogoloff of Newport News, VA; Kris S. Pogoloff (Bobbie) of Crested Butte, CO; Kirk R. Pogoloff (Carrie Jane) of Dallas, TX; and Kevin H. Pogoloff (Susan) of Boone, NC.  Mrs. Pogoloff’s beloved grandsons are Jason H. Pogoloff (Anna) of Denver, CO; Jared A. Pogoloff (Sarah) of Fort Worth, TX; Seth D. Pogoloff (Morgan) of Dallas, TX; R. Warren Beck (Jenny) of Lexington, KY; and A. D. Bo Pogoloff of Cary, NC.  The delight of her life were her 11 great grandchildren: Riley, Max, Sasha, Anna Carol, Lou Lou, Samuel, Gracie, Zoey, Hadley, and Ruthy Pogoloff and Julian Beck.

Sharing in their grief are her three brothers-in law: Joseph M. Pogoloff, of Leander, TX; Paul L. Powell (Elaine) of Boca Raton, FL; and Ralph J. Pogoloff of Princeton, TX; as well as her many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews who all loved their visits with Aunt Peggy and Uncle Bo.

Mrs. Pogoloff will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery and thus reunited with Boris the love of her life and her husband of nearly 40 years:  their grave situated overlooking the nearby grave of her parents on Grant Drive.  A grave side service will be held at a future date.
