James A. Massey, 80, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018. He was born in 1937 to the late James A. and Ella B. Pool Massey in Birmingham, AL. After 26 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, Massey retired as an Avionics/Electronics Technician.
James enjoyed being a member of the Denbigh Military Retirement Club, he was passionate about fishing, golf, gardening, riding motorcycles, enjoyed old school music, western movies, the outdoors, seafood and loved dogs.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Kevin W. Massey of Florida, James A. Massey of North Dakota, Christopher L. Massey of Texas, and David B. Massey of Texas; daughter, Sharon K. Johnson of Newport News; his special companion, Brenda L. Sears of Hampton; siblings, Betty J. Lipsey of Alabama; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Beverley R. Massey; step father, Will “Candyman” Lipsey; sisters, Cynthia D. Lipsey, Eleanor R. Pearson, and Lula P. Kelly.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 15, at 1pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home-Denbigh Chapel, 12893 Jefferson Ave. Newport News.
