James "Jimmy" Manuel

July 28, 1943 - April 28, 2021

James (Jimmy) Raymond Manuel, 77, went to be with the lord on Wednesday, April 28,2021. Jimmy was born in Florence, SC and was raised in the Ghent area of Norfolk and was a graduate from Maury High School. Jimmy was the son of the late James Allen Manuel and Faye Vida Manuel. Besides his parents Jimmy is preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years Helen Marie Manuel; a daughter Mary Holt Manuel; a grandson Clayton (C.J.) Housand; aunt Myrtle Scott; three brothers Kenneth (Butch) Manuel, Pervy Manuel, Ronald Manuel; and a son-in-law Cary Scott Sr.

Jimmy was a longtime member of East Coast Church. Jimmy was the most caring and a hard-working man. Jimmy was a Master Brick Mason in the Hampton Roads area. Jimmy loved his wife and children unconditionally and was an ultimate family man. Jimmy spent a lot of time with his family over the years whether it was camping or vacationing along the east coast.

Jimmy was a kind soul and would show compassion to all he came in contact with. He was always willing to help those in need. He has taken in so many people over the years to help them back on their feet. Teaching them a trade to work and have a way to be self-sufficient. Many of the people Jimmy helped looked up to him as a father which in return they would all call him “Pop” as if they were truly his children.

Jimmy truly loved life and being surrounded by his family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his three children Tammy (Steve) Milhoan, Jessie Manuel, and Crystal Scott; sister Betty Faye (JR) Loveday; brother Daniel Manuel; 7 grandchildren Kimberly Manuel (Rooney), Ashley (Chris) Hollowell, Kristen Manuel, Brandon S. Housand, Taylor Manuel, Stephen Milhoan Jr., Nicholas Caro; and 2 great-grandchildren Journi Housand and Brandon T. Housand.
