Janet Morgan left this world on August 12, 2019. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She will be forever missed by everyone who loved her.
Janet Groves Morgan passed away Monday in a way she herself could not have scripted any better.
She died unexpectedly in her bed while doing her favorite thing – reading on a placid sun-filled day, her granddaughter’s voice lively in play in the next room.
Janet was the daughter of Layton and Mary Groves, who predeceased her in the Northern Neck of Virginia. She leaves behind a sister Mary Lee and her husband Jay Katon and nieces and nephews. Also, a brother Charles Barry Groves and his wife Carol Sabo and their children.
She leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Warren Morgan; daughter Jennifer Marie and husband, Alvin Turner and grandson, Vincent; son Charles Russell Morgan and his wife Brandi and their children Courtney, Alyssa and Charlotte; a son Randolph Lee Morgan; and son Yoshiro Yajima and wife Emi and grandchildren Marie and Keishi Yajima.
In addition, she is survived by her brother-in-law Gary Randolph and his wife Peggy Morgan, and her sister-in-law Susan Lee Morgan.
Janet was an educator. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in History from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master of Science Degree in Health Education from Old Dominion University. From there, she served in the Chesapeake and Hampton Health Departments. She was a CPR trainer for the American Heart Association and a Child Birth instructor for the American Red Cross. She was an adjunct faculty member at Old Dominion and Norfolk State Universities as well as a Virginia Beach City Public Schools teacher. As a lifelong educator, Janet was excited about learning so that she could share what she knew with others.
Her ashes will be laid to rest in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia on November 30, 2019 where all are welcome to attend. Those wishing to should send donations to their favorite charity while thinking of Janet.
