Jay Bradley Everett of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away on Thursday, October 26th. Born in Norfolk, Va. on December 20, 1966, he was a graduate of First Colonial High School and a graduate of Old Dominion University with a B.S. degree in Environmental Health. His wonderful sense of humor will be sorely missed. He was extremely kind and loving, always pulling for the underdog. He had many friends and his mission in life was helping others, especially with addiction battles.
He is survived by his parents, O.L. and Carol Everett; sister Jennifer E. Sykes and brother-in law Jim Sykes; three nephews, Jimmy, Will and John Sykes; two uncles, Hal Prentiss (Marianne) and Hardy Everett (Barbara); and cousins, Greg Prentiss and Shawn Everett. A memorial service will be on Saturday, Nov. 4th, at 2pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1801 Baltic Ave., 23451. In lieu of flowers, one of Brad’s favorite charities is SEVA, a global nonprofit eye care organization that transforms communities. Memorial donations in Brad’s memory may be made HERE. John Hamilton Culbreth

It is with a heavy heart and tear filled eyes i sit and write, my name is John Hamilton Culbreth, to you the families and friends whom hold Brad so dear, so do I;(Jennie, Gina, ….) he will forever be held in my higest regard. Words do little to express moments of growth, memories of joy, that embody a friend so dear. His tenure as costodian of virtue, humor, and drive only begins a paragraph to volumes. Brad and i were close at a distance, he bore 307 more days than i to which i looked up to him as the brother of Jennie and friend to me and family. I, too was reared in insulated North End with only adventure and life to unfold as we grew; we surfed, saw bands, exchanged ideas and laughed. Brad is the epidemy of true: albeit friend, and custodian of service to others behind the veil, or family. We’d laugh, he looked more like Enerest Hemmingway in recent times than his boyish, tanned veneer of youth beach side. We were commrades, his empirical thoughts and drives were refreshing always oweing to intellectual overview and insight. He never faughtered when it came to testing rituals that seemed mundane or obtruse. One time on the steps of Webb Center at ODU he gave me a small volume on Buddism rites and rituals he found to be enlightening and thought provoking. in earlier years we surfed, early-late it didnt matter he loved the ocean, the sea, the earth and its antiquities. His robust train of thought and genuine heart felt expressions, to me, will be sorely missed. His youthful nature and tested wisdom came with merit, morals, and the majorities’, best interest at heart. We will embrace again with thoughts of grandeur and spirtual hopes of readiness, his earthly preseance as Friend, Brother, Son, Partner holds him, to me, with his contemporaries. I learned from Brad, Laughed with Brad, grew with Brad, he was a light to us all that will brighten legions of others to come.

I have known Brad for many years. We were not close friends but over the years, whenever I would see him, a smile came to my heart. He was a great asset to our community and was often seen helping others. Every now and then, someone touches deeply the life of another. Brad did this for me and I will never forget him. Blessings of peace to his family and friends.

To Carol, Butch, and Jennie, my deepest sympathies for your loss. To lose a loved one so young is a crushing blow. Brad was my friend since we were children, and as a man he opened his heart and home to me at one of the most difficult times of my life. His humor, positiveness, and stubborn streak were just a few of the wonderful qualities that made him such an awesome person to be around. Brad never ceased to surprise me with his quick wit, and unique ability to look at life from different perspectives. Brad could always bring a smile and make me laugh, no matter what. I will miss him dearly, and I am grateful to call him my friend. The world is a little less bright with his absence.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your loved one. While grief at the loss of a loved one is painful, our heavenly Father promises that those who have fallen asleep in death will be raised to life. (Acts 24:15) Until that time, the cherished memories you have of your loved one may they help bring you inner peace and live forever in your heart.
