Jean Marion Blowes Lankford passed away Sunday, August 15th, 2021 in Norfolk, Virginia.

Jean was born to Ernest John Blowes and Mary Louisa Timms Blowes in East Ham, London, England in January of 1926. While she was living in London, World War 2 broke out and she was evacuated to Oxford, England where she lived for 3 years prior to going to work for the Rations office. At the end of the war, she met Louis Victor Lankford, Jr.  while the Merchant Marine ship he was assigned to was in port. They struck up a friendship that continued over the next year via mail and would later marry.

Jean married “Vic” in 1947, came to the U.S. in 1948 and had their first child, Jennifer Louise in 1949. In 1952, Deborah Victoria was born and this completed their family. Norfolk became Jean’s permanent home, where she and her husband raised their daughters.

In addition to being predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Blowes, she was predeceased by her husband, Louis Victor Lankford, Jr., her Son-in-law, Woodrow Wilson Midgette, her Grandson-in-law John Hobden, and three great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Jennifer Vinson (Johnny) and Debby Midgette; five grandchildren – Sherrie Payne (Don), Matthew Midgette, Heather Hobden, Emily Arters (Fred), and Katherine Fary (Brandon); Granddaughter-in-law Dawn Mikles Midgette; and 17-Great Grandchildren – Britton, John, Collin, Owen, Ashleigh, Caleb, Connor, Luke, Jake, Gabriel, Logan, Noah, Elizabeth, Madison, Greyson, Abbigail and Lyla.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the main sanctuary of the Rock Church International at 640 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23464. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jean’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Foundation via their link www.alz.org.
