Joan Elaine Bowling, 85, passed away peacefully, May 9, 2018.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents George and Mary (formerly Saylor) Bartek and brother George Bartek, Jr of Ashley, PA.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years, CDR (Retired) David H. Bowling, her five children: David H. Bowling Jr, John Kirby Bowling (Dorothy), Mary Kate Morris (Barton), Carolyn F. Davis (William), Janet S. Johnson; grandchildren: Victoria, Jon, Laura, Catherine, Grace, Michael, Matthew, Susannah, and Joseph; great-granddaughter Ruby, sister Mary Noll, and survived by other relatives and friends. Special thanks to caregivers Myrna, Seble, Rita and Thelma.

Joan was a graduate of Misericordia University, Dallas, PA. She was a life long reader and avid crossword puzzler.

She was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, the Larkspur Garden Club, and volunteered her time and compassion to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and Meals on Wheels of Greater Tidewater. She will be truly and dearly missed.

A Memorial Mass to celebrate Joan’s life will be held 10am, Friday, May 18, 2018 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church (5345 Virginia Beach Blvd. Virginia Beach). Final rest at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA at a later date. The Altmeyer Funeral Home-Southside Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
