Joel was a terrific mentor and source of strength through my season. Incredibly calm, encouraging and optimistic, I know that he is in Heaven watching us now. I’ll endeavor to make you proud Joel. I am blessed to have known you and I will see you again one day! God Bless Joel!

I had the honor of serving with him on two of the finest warships in the Navy. As an FC1 on the Cape St. George and again several years later on the Preble. We got to ride motorcycles a couple times together. I remember him telling a story about taking off on a ride from San Diego to clear his head and the next thing he new he was in Las Vegas. He always had words of wisdom for me almost every time we talked. I will miss you shipmate. Fair winds and following seas. Praying for your family and I know you have found peace.

It was an absolute pleasure having you as a neighbor and a co-worker. There’s so much I’m going to miss; the fist bumps in the p-ways, chatting at my desk, and weekend morning conversation/advice you would share on your porch. I’m a better JO because of you. We would joke with my 7 yr old son, asking if he had a secret clearance because, in your words “you’re about to hear some classified shit.” and laugh. Landyn brings it up all time. My wife and I talk about the day we both went into your house and you were SO proud to show us Krista and Elizabeth little hand molds in the glass case, how much your eyes lit up talking about them. You were so proud of them. We miss you Joel. Rest easy my friend!

Words cannot express how we all feel right now; however I will leave some good memories. One night on duty you asked me to come down to the HT shop to help you with a project where we went though all of MR2’s cutting tips to machine out the primer in the round that would soon house the Chiefs coin in the mug you would make. Here is one for Mike Jones. Mike decided to prank Joel by I believe tin foiling his coffee mug so of course there had to be retaliation. Next night on duty I went to the commissary on base and bought jello. The next morning we served Mike his coffee mug encased in a jello mold on a silver platter with wiped cream around the bottom of it. Finally, Joel was my liberty buddy along with Kevin and John through my last deployment. I believe we damn near drank the entire South Pacific out of beer…well at least we gave it our best shot. Ill see you again my friend. I wish I had not been so distant these past couple of years. RIP Brother! Lisa I am so very sorry.

Joel was honestly one of the smartest, barvest, and most talented people I’ve ever met. He was one of my most cherished mentors and friends. There are so many things I want to say about this man, but don’t have the time or space to. He is a legend and will be deeply missed. Rest easy, brother. I have the watch for you.
