VIRGINIA BEACH- John Edward Machuzak, 78, went home to be with his mighty God August 9, 2020. He passed peacefully at home with his wife Linda and son Johnny by his side.
John was born in Marion Heights, Pennsylvania on August 19, 1941 to the late John and Catherine Machuzak. John was very proud of his career in the U.S. Navy where he dedicated 24 years of service, and retired as a Senior Chief. During his career he received the National Defense Service Medal, 3 Good Conduct Awards, a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and an Air Crewman Insignia. Following his Navy career, he then went on to serve another 20 years with a civil service career in computer maintenance. John loved his Pittsburgh Steelers and when he wasn’t enjoying a Steelers game, he could be found line dancing or traveling with his family and friends. His greatest passion was loving Jesus, and he could be found worshiping him on Sundays at London Bridge Baptist Church where he was a member. John had just celebrated 50 years of sobriety, and helped so many others overcome their own addiction by sponsoring and encouraging them through hard times. He was genuinely a good person who was always willing to help others and never met a stranger.
John is predeceased by his daughter Leslie Machuzak. He is survived by his loving wife Linda Rose Machuzak; son Johnny Machuzak; step children Stephanie Bettcher (Tommy), Jeremy Nance (Holly), Dana Weaver, Jennifer Geisel and Cindy Paquet; brothers Mike Machuzak and Joe Machuzak; sisters Sandy Machuzak and Patsy Machuzak; grandchildren Wesley and Hunter Iobst, Makayla, Maison and Ada Nance, Angie and Austin Leche, Avery Uzzell, Shawn and Emily Jacobs, and Brittany Denayer; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held Saturday, August 22, at 11am at London Bridge Baptist Church, 2460 Potters Rd, Virginia Beach. John will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens immediately following the service, where he will receive military honors provided by the US Navy.

We very fortunate to have met John through his beautiful angel Leslie, and immediately saw his strength and pure love; we are not perceptive - it just so clearly runs in the family! We add our voices to the very many who rightly honor his service to his country, his family and his faith community. We have been so blessed to get to know Johnny a bit too and are so grateful that like his sister his capacity for generous love knows no bounds. The Lord will truly be taking care of this family, and we add our prayers that your many wonderful memories help comfort you in this time of loss.
