John "Jack" Sands

December 13, 1928 - March 12, 2021

John “Jack” Sands was a beloved husband, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend who went to be with The Lord on March 12, 2021. Jack was born on December 13, 1928 in Portsmouth, VA to the late John and Mary Sands. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Anne with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, John Sands III and his wife Vicky; daughter, Lisa Farabaugh and her husband Clark; grandchildren, Brian, Katie and her husband Mike, Chad, and Casey; great grandson, Landon; and sister, June Allen.

Jack briefly served in the military before transitioning to a career in Civil Service at Naval Air Reworks Facility (NARF) in Norfolk, VA from which he retired. In his spare time, he thoroughly enjoyed his special talent of carpentry, which he continued after retirement. He was a long time dedicated member of Azalea Baptist Church where he adored his church family. Faith was a significant part of his life and he was a living example of that. Jack was devoted to his family and was affectionately known to his grandchildren as “Big Daddy”.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 15 at 1:00 PM at Azalea Baptist Church (3314 E. Little Creek Rd Norfolk, VA 23518). Interment will directly follow at Princess Anne Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Azalea Baptist Church in his name. Jack was loved by all and will be missed dearly.
