John Martin Casey

April 23, 1933 - December 21, 2017

John M. Casey, 84, died on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017. He was the son of Emily M. and Stephen J. Casey, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife Kathleen, and his brother William F. Casey. He was born and raised in the Ocean View area of Norfolk, VA. He graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School and The College of William and Mary (Norfolk Division). He served in the U.S. Army with the 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry, Company A (Honor Guard) at Fort Myer in Arlington, VA.
John taught school for a number of years in the Norfolk City School System. He then worked for the Norfolk City Assessors Office, retiring as the Chief Deputy Tax Assessor in 1996. He was past President of the Chesapeake Athletic Club and a life member.
John is survived by his stepdaughters Monica Brower, Andrea Gauthier, and Laura Telford and their families who will forever remember and love him; his brother Stephen J. Casey Jr., and his family; and two special families, Laura Woodruff of Clermont, FL and Sheila Smith of Memphis, TN.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Sat., Jan. 6th at 12 noon with Msgr. Frederic Elkin officiating. Inurnment to follow in the Star of the Sea Columbarium. Memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters or the SPCA. Online condolences may be left to the family below.
