John Nelson "Jack" Reichert

John (Jack) Nelson Reichert, 81, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019 in Virginia Beach, VA surrounded by his loving family. John was born July 13, 1937 to William & Melvina Reichert in Columbus, Ohio.

John retired from the U.S. Marine Corp in 1977 after faithfully serving his country for 22 years. His family was his everything. He was always there lending a helping hand wherever needed. He could be found outside in his garage, “his happy place”, working on whatever project he had going on or listening to music. He was quite the dancer in his early years.

John will be dearly missed by his wife and best friend, Barbara of 64 years; 2 Daughters, Debbie Morrison (husband, Mike), Shirley Lovett; 4 grandchildren; Shaun (wife, Marilyn), Michael (wife, Bri), Christina (Sensio), David (Mikki); 7 great grandchildren, Brittany, Brooke, Audrey, Connor, Peyton, Taylor, Mason; one great great-grandson, Westen; sister; Nancy Scarberry (Don), brother-in-law; Jim Friley and family.

A visitation will be held from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm followed by a service from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5503 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach. A graveside service will be held at 3 pm at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Kidney Fund or Marine Toys for Tots.
