John T. "Sweet" Hawkins III

January 11, 1953 - August 26, 2019

On Monday, August 26, 2019, John T. Hawkins III passed away unexpectedly. Johnny “Sweet” was born on January 11, 1953 to Nora and John Hawkins, Jr. in Norfolk, Virginia. Raised in Virginia Beach, Johnny graduated from Bayside High School, Class of ’71. That is where he met the love of his life, Beverly. Although they never married, they were together until her death in 2010. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his step-son and best friend, Teddy Torok, Jr. (Coley). Papa Johnny will forever be missed by his grandchildren, Elliott LeJeune, Tia and Thor Torok. His passing is also deeply felt by his sister, Margie Hopper; brother, Herbie Hawkins (Coral); nieces, Ashley (Jay), Jennifer (Stephen), Rachel (Mike); great-niece, Karter and great-nephews, Rowan and Keagan. Johnny was a beloved employee of Virginia Drywall for over 35 years. His absence will be felt by all his coworkers. Johnny enjoyed hunting in his younger years, but was always an avid fisherman. “Sweet” was one never to miss an Icehouse fishing trip. “Sweet” enjoyed the camaraderie of his South Beach Grill, Icehouse, and Shadowlawn family. His passing will leave a tremendous void in their lives. This is a bitter “Sweet” good bye!
