Josh Ham Jr. of Newport News, VA died Monday, February 24, 2020 at home. Born April 28, 1928 in Grimesland, NC, Josh was the son of Josh and Maddie Ham.

He left home after high school to study Radio and Electrical design in Chicago, Il before enlisting in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. While enlisted, he reached the rate of Petty Officer Second Class. After being honorably discharged, he completed three years of college at East Carolina University. Later, he worked more than thirty six years at Newport News Shipbuilding before retiring in 1993. Josh was a longtime golfer who had the opportunity to attend the Masters at Augusta, and play at St. Andrews in Scotland. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Newport News and a current member of Northside Christian Church.

Josh is preceded in death by his parents, Josh and Maddie Ham, and his sister Edna Centrone.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Ginny) Ham; their daughter, Becky Griggs; their grandson and his wife, Zach and Katie Griggs.

A Memorial Service will be held in Josh’s honor on Monday, March 2 in the Student Center at Northside Christian Church at 2pm, reception to follow.
