Juan Enrique “Quique” Tavarez Alicea,

February 17, 1962 - September 16, 2020

02/17/1962 - 09/16/2020

Juan Enrique “Quique” Tavarez Alicea, 58, of Virginia Beach passed away at the hospital surrounded by his loving wife and children on September 16, 2020.
Juan was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on February 17, 1962 and raised by his parents the late Emerita Alicea Merced and Juan Merced Rosario.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Desiree; children, Michael Tavarez(Tanya), Zachary Tavarez (Lexie), Nina Murphy(Dan), and Mark Harding; siblings, Sonia Rivera(Osvaldo), Jose “Chemon” Ramon Tavarez(Frances), Sheila Tavarez-Ortiz(Hector Ortiz), Wanda Tavarez , Juan “Monchi” Ramón Tavarez (Carolina), Sandra Merced, Ramon Osiris Tavarez, Angel Daliz; grandchildren, Alexis, Dominick, Jayden, Mila, and Juliette; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Juan was an amazing husband to his wife, Desiree, whom he met in 1989 at a Latin dance club. They were married on July 25, 1992 and had the pleasure of raising three wonderful children together. He was also a great dad and a loving “papa” to his grandkids as well as his friend’s children.
Some of his most memorable and loved qualities was that he was always giving to others, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was always the life of the party. Everyone that met Quique loved his genuine personality. In his presence, you felt like family and his home was always open for a conversation and a meal. He was a diehard Yankee and NY Giants fan which was always a source of banter in his life which was very amusing. Music was a huge part of his life and he prided himself on being a percussionist. He has played in several bands over the years and would frequently be found jamming out with his friends in his home.
In 2014, he was instrumental in starting a Virginia Chapter of the Borinqueneers Motorcycle Club and was blessed to have met many wonderful people who became great friends. He was a huge supporter of many charities, but the Special Olympics was very dear to his heart.
Quique was a veteran who served in the United States Marine Corp for four years as well as the US Army for four years. After he was done with military life, he started working at Superior Air Freight (Givens) where he spent 24 years and was very close with and loved by all who worked with him.
A Celebration of Quique’s life will be held at 2PM, Sept. 26th, at 4891 Blackwater Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23457.

Rest In Peace, Juan. I remember when your kids were small and they would ride around with you in your truck. You travelled with joy and humor. I know you will be missed by so many.

Thank you for this outlet.
Quique was an AMAZING cousin, friend, brother. He was so full of life, fun & love for his family, love for his siblings, and of course, love for his Country.
Thank you Quique for ALL the years of non-stop laughter and fun. Thanks for your Service!

I have so many memories of the stuff we used to do as teenagers. And how we ALWAYS LOVED being together and having fun.
My only regret is, that I didn’t get to spend time with you while we were adults with our families. I am, and always will be grateful for the time I had with you and your family growing up.
I will miss you my brother.
Rest In Peace, and say hello to your mom and dad, as well as the rest of the family for me.
Tell my mom & dad that I miss them always.

In the Arms of God you are now.
Until we meet again.
Love Rich

My love to your family.
And if there is anything I can help with, please feel free to just ask.

My dearest brother, I will miss you forever. But I know that I will see and hug you again because on 8/4/2020 you made the best decision you could’ve ever made – to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. For this I am beyond grateful to our Father. Love you forever and always, your sis.

Any time spent with my uncle quique was a special memory, he was the light and the booming voice in the room, always joking and picking at you was his way of showing love. If you were feeling down stopping by his and Aunt Desiree’s house was sure to warm your soul (and your belly) as they always have people over, something going on, or good food on the stove.
My heart breaks for my Aunt as you could see the love between them, soulmates.
And to my cousins and their children for suffering such a major loss in their life too soon.
