Judith “Judy” L. Watkins, 81, of Virginia Beach, VA, loving mother and grandmother, passed away November 28, 2021. Judy was loved and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Born in Asheville, NC, she married her high school sweetheart, John T. Watkins, in 1961. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis C. and Mary Josephine Lineberry, and her brother, Louis C. Lineberry, Jr. She attended Lee Edwards HS in Asheville, NC, and Limestone College in Gaffney, SC. Judy was a Teacher’s Assistant in Virginia Beach Public Schools for 28 years.
Judy loved traveling with her husband, family, and friends, hiking in National Parks, and was a skilled collector of sea glass in the Outer Banks. She cherished family gatherings and neighbors from Kings Grant and the North End, and lifelong friends from North Carolina. Many knew her as “Moogie,” a nickname from her son, Thom, that fondly carried on to her grandkids and close friends. Loved ones will always remember Judy’s bright smile, Southern charm, and spark for life!
Besides her husband Johnny, left to cherish her memory are her son, John T. “Thom” Watkins, Jr. (Wendy), daughter Ann Vakos (Andy) and their children Drew (Madeline) and Samantha, as well as a couple of nieces and a nephew. Judy’s family is forever thankful for the loving care she received at home from Dorlene, Marina, Ella, and Beverly.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, December 3, at Galilee Church, 3928 Pacific Ave, Virginia Beach.
