June Doris Lockwood

July 23, 1922 - September 22, 2021

June Doris Lockwood, 99, fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday morning, September 22, 2021.

June was predeceased by her parents William S. and Maybelle L. (Sweeney) David, her husbands, Cpl. Richard Raymond Fisher, US Army Air Corps, and Master Chief Robert G. Lockwood, US Navy, brothers William F. David and Dale M. David. She had the toughest job in the military; that of a military wife.

She is survived by her four children, Darlene F. Lavender, Deborah S. Crawford (George), Robert D. Lockwood (Janet) and David S. Lockwood; her brother Gary S. David (Beverly); nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

June’s greatest joy was doing for others. She was known far and wide for her fabulous cooking and baking skills. She loved to bake special goodies to give as treats and gifts and her family always looked forward to holiday time because they knew there would be a plethora of wonderful and delicious things to eat. Fifty (or more) dozen cookies would appear, as if by magic, from her kitchen. She enjoyed sewing and often made her own clothes, adapting designs to fit her purpose. June also enjoyed a variety of needlecrafts, knitting, crocheting, and counted cross-stitch.

She served as Girl Scout Cookie Chair, when the girls were in Scouting in the 1950’s. The 1960s and 1970s found her square dancing with husband Bob. She often made matching square dance outfits for herself, Bob, and the two boys. June and Bob served as President of the Merrimack Square Dance Club in Norfolk. When the boys became involved in The Order of DeMolay, she served as the first President of the Kempsville DeMolay Mothers’ Club. June also served as the Secretary, and only female, of the Board of Directors of the Virginia DeMolay Foundation. June was a former member of Ocean View Chapter, #35, Order of the Eastern Star, where she served in many offices and committees, and cooked countless dinners for the Chapter. She celebrated her Scottish Heritage as a member of The Clan Stewart Society of America, The Scottish Society of Tidewater, and the St. Andrew’s Society of Tidewater.

June was a member of Haygood United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, where a Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 2:00 o’clock.
