Kathy Byars, 64, cherished mother, grandmother and friend left this world to join her eternal love, “The Papster,” on Monday, April 16, 2018.
Kathy, “Kay-Bee” or “COMM-Mom” as she was often affectionately called is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Richard Byars. She is survived by her two children, Jessica Hyman and Justin Byars, both of Newport News and a step-daughter, Angela Pezzulo of Lancaster, PA.
Kathy was a long-time employee of Christopher Newport University in the Communications department. She loved her job, her peers and mostly importantly her “peeps.” Her position with CNU was far more than a job; she embraced the Captain’s Way and is leaving a legacy that shall shine for years to come.
A celebration of life in her memory will be held at the Pope Chapel, located on the campus of Christopher Newport University, on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.

I am sorry that she passed away. She was a friend to my family. She was my baby sitter when I was younger. She will be missed so much.

Sending my sympathy to Kathy’s family as well as her extended family at CNU. Her legacy will certainly live on in those lives she touched.
