Kathy Jo Ebeling went to see Jesus February 1, 2021 in Virginia Beach, Virginia with her family lovingly holding her hands. Born to Chuck and Shirley Humphreys on June 18, 1956, she was a birthday present to her mom. She was a graduate of Kellam High School.
Kathy was born into a military family that gave her the education of her life. She lived in Hawaii, Guam, Iowa, Colorado, Georgia, California and finally Virginia. It was here that she crafted much of her life: working in Civil Service, finding love, becoming an instant mom and grandmother, and making many, many friends. She married Fred Ebeling in 1996. She retired in 2016, and began traveling. Of course that meant doing lots of shopping along the way. Any local shopping involved her co conspirator Nancy Beaty, and no bargain ever got away! She traveled and spent time with her parents.
Never having biological children, she became a mom and grandmother to Fred’s family. She loved them all as her own. She was always giving to them and shared her pool with them.
Kathy gained so many friends throughout her life. She always gave herself to people, and many times comforted and encouraged those who were discouraged. She loved to have fun with them. She loved to bowl!
She loved spending time in Missouri with her family there. She especially spent time with her mom before she died. She was devoted to her dad, taking him on trips to see friends. She would drive them to Texas for their winter break. And wouldn’t you know, she gained more friends from Texas and Missouri! You can see a pattern!
Kathy was preceded in death by her mom, and the two are holding hands again! Those waiting to join them are her husband Fred Ebeling, her dad Chuck Humphreys, her brothers Terry (Gloria) Humphreys and Ron (Pam) Humphreys. Also surviving are Connie Ebeling, Fred (Krissy) Ebeling Jr., Kathy (Matt) Drumwright, Brenda Detoye, and Debra Ebeling. There are also 6 well loved grandchildren and a bunch of great grandchildren.
We all feel that Kathy’s life ended too quickly, but her life in eternity got the jump on all of us. Celebrate her life with us.
A memorial service will be held for Kathy at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Southside Chapel on Monday, February 8, 2021 at 2:00 pm.

I love you Kathy! ❤️
I had the pleasure of working with Kathy at NAB LCreek and Naval Station Norfolk for many years. Kathy was definitely one of a kind. She crossed the paths of many who adored and loved her. Her smile, laughter, the willingness to always help others, quick wit and even her funny sarcasm are just a few of her qualities. She was the type of person that you couldn’t help but love. Her life was taken way too soon, and Heavan definitely received a dear angel. May it give us all comfort and peace to know that she is no longer suffering. She fought her fight hard and I know she gave it her all. I will forever treasure our friendship. You will be sorely missed Kathy. Rest easy my friend and fly high.
Sending love, hugs and prayers to her family.

I didn’t know Kathy just Fred Sr and family but I know she meant the world to Fred Sr, my thoughts and prayers are with the family.
I can’t believe that Kathy is gone but I am glad that she is not suffering anymore. You will be missed. We will be there for Fred. He has you as his guardian angel.
Kathy was special, someone you do not forget. She was always nice in high school and years later she was still the same, pretty, nice and a happy smile.
Many condolences to her family!
