Larry Chase Pope of Currituck County, NC passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, September 19th 2019 at the youthful age of 51 in Chesapeake, Virginia.  Chase was born May 16th 1968 in Norfolk, Virginia.  He is survived by the many loves of his life.  His high school sweetheart and wife, Sheryl Marie Robinson Pope.  His three daughters and son-in-law’s; Ashley Hurst (Alan Hurst) of Moyock, NC, Alicha Pope (Brian Lesinski) of Barco, NC, and Alison Pope (Shane Smith) of Barco, NC.  An abundance of family members including nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.  He is also survived by his mother Andrea Scott Mackinson. Chase is predeceased by his father Larry Houston Pope and stepfather James Travis Kight.
Chase was blessed with six grandchildren whom he cherished with all his heart; Areighna Aviles, Ainsleigh Aviles, Aundrea Smith, Alivia Pope, Zane Lesinski, and Connor Smith.
Chase has many titles.  A husband, father, and grandfather.  A son, uncle, cousin, and brother.  Chase was an avid fisherman and nothing brought him more joy than days spent out on the water with his family.  Chase was also an incredible hunter with one heck of a shot.
Chase could never meet a single stranger.  He kept his home open as much as his heart.  Often welcoming relatives and friends to take in as his own.  If you needed him, he was there.  No matter the situation.  Chase and Sheryl always made it a point to make everyone feel welcome and loved beyond measure.
Chase was a jack of all trades and could outdrive anyone.  Or at least that’s what he would say.  He was a man of many words and never let anyone else have the last one.  His smile is unforgettable and his laugh was infectious.  He was a stubborn man with zero fear.  He had few weaknesses; his family and his dogs.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, September 29th, 2019 at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 929 S Battlefield Blvd, Chesapeake, VA 23322.  The viewing will begin at 2:00 pm with a funeral service to commence at 4:00 pm.  Donations and flowers are welcomed and can be received directly at the funeral home.  Guests are invited to join the immediate family at the home of Sheryl and Chase Pope in Barco, NC following the conclusion of the services.

I would like to send my condolences to the family, the last time i saw Chase was on Fathers day two years ago and of course it was at the docks in waterlily he and his family were headed out for a day on the water..I have known Chase for many many years he grew up three doors down from my family in Currituck, he was a very good friend to my Brother, they were always getting into some kind of nonsense…lol…but enjoyed their friendship very much. Forever pops. He is and always will be an amazing man. Everytime I came over or even stayed for 4 months..haha, he always treated me like I was one of his own. He always spoke the truth to me and even if he didnt care for what I had to say, he always listened. Him and mom both are so amazing, and truly are the definition of love and family. To the family I am beyond words but I will always pray for you all, wish you all the best, and I will always have your backs through whatever. Alicha you are and always will be my best friend, forever. Sometimes water is thicker than blood. My best memories are with you all and I will forever hold on to them. I know he is watching over you all. I love you all with all of my heart, always have and I always will.

Chase helped me immensely when I was unable and would never, ever take anything in return for his blessed help. My wife Jeana and I had a great deal of love for him and ( our adopted granddaughters he and MIMI gave us ) to watch grow into beautiful girls, and then loving women. We shed tears with them all on this most sad occurrence and can only say we will meet again. A very large fishing area and a SHIP this time is all Chase would call Heaven. Hold on to each other and please help Angie through her suffering. A mother burying her child is something only they can understand. Stay blessed and strong….love, ROBBIE and JEANA VERNON

I was so saddened to hear about Chase’s passing. I haven’t seen him in many years and I am sure his sister and brothers must be devastated. Kim, Jimmy, Lester, Daryl and Wayde..my heart breaks for you. I lost my younger brother a few years ago and it left a big hole in my heart. Peace be with you.

Your dad was a very nice man. I only met him once and he drove all the way to the beach to pick me and Ashley up after a night of craziness. He had our back regardless the situation we had come to put ourselves in and didn’t once make me feel bad but instead made me feel safe. I was a complete stranger to him but he knew his daughter had called and he was coming and HE WAS NOT PLAYING! I will never forget him coming to our rescue. He was a dad I had always wished to have. I am so sorry for y’alls loss and hope yall can find peace of mind throughout all this. Love you Ashley and prayers to your family!
