Lena Gosman Miles

January 21, 1923 - July 27, 2015

Lena Gosman Miles, 92, born January 21st, 1923 in South Norfolk, VA passed away peacefully on July 27th, 2015 in her home in VA Beach. Lena was a resident of Great Bridge for over 50 years before moving to Virginia Beach with her daughter Donna where she spent the last 12 years of her life. In her youth, Lena spent 16 years studying voice and piano/organ which led her to a career in teaching piano lessons as well as spending years leading the adult and youth choirs at Oak Grove Methodist and Portlock Methodist Church.  Among her other accomplishments was her 15 years working for the Chesapeake Treasurers Office. As an avid animal lover at heart she not only found joy in spoiling her own pets, but was the first to rescue local animals in need. As a generous donor to the local and National Humane Societies, in lieu of flowers, Lena would appreciate donations made to your favorite animal rights organizations. Lena’s lifelong love of 58 years Luther E. Miles Sr. predeceased her at age 78. She was also predeceased by her loving son Luther E. Miles Jr. in 1991.   Lena is survived by her daughter Donna M. Ware, Grandchildren Christopher D. Ware, Sheri Miles Voliva and Staci Miles Nolan as well as great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. There will be a Memorial Gathering at Altmeyer Funeral home located at 929 Battlefield Blvd S., Chesapeake on Friday from 11am – 1pm. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens on Cedar Road immediately following the gathering. Online condolences may be offered at Altmeyer.com.
