Lloyd Ernest Miller, Sr., 90, passed away on March 22, 2016. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia to Lloyd Eugene and Nellie Gray Miller. Lloyd was a retired Norfolk Police Department officer, worked in the Traffic Bureau and Commonwealth’s Attorney Office for 33 years and later as a security officer with DePaul Hospital. He also served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Police. Lloyd was predeceased by his parents and beloved wife of 60 years, Dorothy. Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Marianne Sandborg (Jeff), Nancy Miller (Bill Drewry); three sons, Lloyd Miller, Jr. (Deb), Tim Miller (Christine), and Ken Miller (Ann); brother, Larry E. Miller, and ten grandchildren.
Lloyd was a proud member of Heritage United Methodist Church, formerly LeKies UMC, for over 80 years, where he sang in the choir and served on many committees. The most important things in his life were Dorothy, his family, his church, and his career as a police officer.
The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Greenwich Road, Wednesday, May 18, from 4 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, May 19, 10 a.m. at Heritage United Methodist Church, 815 Baker Road, Virginia Beach, Dr. Alexander Duncan, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow at Colonial Grove Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Heritage UMC, may be made. Condolences may be offered at www.altmeyer.com.
