Lois M. Thomas

April 21, 1924 - December 17, 2020

04/21/1924 - 12/17/2020

Lois Meyer Thomas was born to John and Rosamond Meyer April 21, 1924 in Maryland. Lois grew up surrounded by the love of her siblings and family, Dorothy, Daniel, Esther, Ruth and Eunice.

Lois was a traveler at heart – and she loved to cook, especially crab cakes. If you couldn’t find Lois at home, playing with her dog Tiger Lily, you could find her at her beloved church, or walking the sandy shores of a beach in search of shark’s teeth (which she collected).

Lois passed on to Heaven on December 17, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Rosamond Meyer; her siblings Dorothy (Fred) Long, Daniel (Viola) Meyer, Esther (Edgar) Doyle, Ruth (Floyd) Peck, and Eunice (Kenneth) Terpening; and her spouses Paul Ector and William Thomas.

Left to remember Lois and honor her memory are her stepchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren.

Lois lived a life full of love and she will truly be missed.

Lois goes to rest beside her husband, William Thomas at the Hampton Memorial Gardens located at 155 Butler Farm Road, Hampton VA 23666.

I am so glad that my Grandma Lois will join her muse William in heaven. Without trying she taught me an important lesson to which I have tried my best to remain true.

Follow your heart and don’t worry about what people think. I suppose her inter-racial marriage to William in the 70s in staid ol’ Virginia may have raised an eyebrow or two. But that sure didn’t stop my Grandma Lois from marrying a Prince of a man. The memory that stands out of being with Lois and William isn’t a singular event but an all-encompassing feeling. It crosses the time and space of every precious visit we shared. I remember how much they LAUGHED. Grandma with warmth and the pretense of despair as she would delight in William’s mischief and teasing. And William – ah – his big deep laugh that you could feel all the way down to your bones. She knew she was a lucky woman to be with someone so adoring but never boring. Now they will laugh together again.
