Robert Warren Arnold, Sr.

September 23, 1932 - June 9, 2021

LTC Robert W. Arnold, USA Ret, husband of Elfriede Margaret Arnold, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2021. Bob was born in Reading, MA on September 23, 1932 to the late Berry W. and Elizabeth Dewey Arnold.

Preceding him in death was his brother Berry W. Jr., and sister’s Shirley Meier, Patricia Cassidy and Dorothy Curtin.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Elfriede Margaret Arnold; two daughters, Kimberley Hitlin & husband Larry and Lisette Cuba & husband Allan; sister, Jeanette Doherty; numerous nieces and nephews and their children; and his great-nephew Michael Meier, Jr. & wife Melissa.

Bob’s prowess in football at the USMA prep school earned him the nickname Sparky by which many of his West Point classmates from CL ’57 knew him. Following his Army career, Sparky retired on December 31, 1976 to Virginia Beach, VA. His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, 2 Air Medals, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, 3 Army Commendations, the Good Conduct Medal from his almost 3 years as an Enlisted Man in the US Air Force, prior to attendance to West Point, Parachutist Badge and the German Parachutist Badge. Bob was a 100% combat related disabled veteran and a member of DAV Virginia Beach Chapter 20.

Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. Date and time are pending and will be updated once it is set.
