Service

Lucy Catherine Lawson, of Newport News, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at the age of 94.  She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Newport News, VA.
Catherine was born on July 23, 1925 in Shanghai, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claudius and Eunice Lawson; her sister, Emma Moore; her brother, Claude Lawson; her nephew, Charles Moore; her niece, Katherine Walden and her husband Denny; and her niece-in-law, Darlene Moore.
Catherine was an executive secretary for the United States Lines for many years. She then went to work at Newport News Shipbuilding and finished her career as the church secretary at Riverside Baptist Church.
Survivors include her nephew, Robert F. Moore; her niece, Donna Stetka; her nephew, Mike Lawson; her niece-in-law, Betty Moore; and many great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at East Pavilion for the compassion, care and concern shown to “Miss Lucy” during her illness and homegoing.
The family will receive friends from 1100 am until 1230 pm on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Riverside Baptist Church, 7409 River Road, Newport News. A funeral service will follow at the church at 100 pm, officiated by Pastor Tommy Davidson. Burial will follow at a later date in Baltimore, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Peninsula Rescue Mission, 3700 Huntington Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607 or the charity of your choice.

Our sweet Ms catherine. You were always a Blessing to all you entered Riverside Baptist Church Your sense of humor kept us all smiling and your knowledge of the church history wad amazing. We have missed you for many years. Love and Peace to your family. Ben & Alice Rich

So sorry for your loss. Catherine was a very good friend of my mother, Gladys Harris, from their days at Riverside Baptist Church. My mother always spoke highly of Catherine. I have a winter landscape picture in my house that Catherine painted for my mom. Prayers for your family.
