Madelynn B. ""Lynn or Sam"" Miles

February 17, 1944 - January 1, 2018

Madelynn “Lynn or Sam” B. Miles, 73, while at home with loved ones, went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2018. Lynn was born on February 17, 1944 to the late Mike and Janie Braudrick at Portsmouth Naval in Virginia.

After graduating from Great Bridge High School, Sam attended Norfolk General Nursing School and graduated from there in 1965. Her career began as a floor nurse at Norfolk General and then she participated in opening the first heart catheterization lab at CHKD. After her children were born, she stayed at home doing the most important job there is, being a mother. Sam would still volunteer as a school nurse from time to time.  She also volunteered as a nurse on several church mission trips to Costa Rica and Puerto Rico. She was a member of Greenbrier Country Club and enjoyed playing with various bridge groups.  After her kids were grown, she spent many wonderful years traveling with her husband as part of his career in the roofing industry. Many of her closest personal friends were made through those years.  Her greatest joy, however, was raising her children and watching her grandchildren grow.

Sam was preceded in death by her parents Mike and Jane Braudrick and by her Brothers in Law Alan C. Miles and Chuck Giles and Sister in Law Masie Braudrick.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 49 years Joseph Dudley Miles, III; daughter Sherri Miles-Foley; son, J.D. Miles, IV and his wife Becky; granddaughters, Gabrielle and Camille Foley; grandsons, John, and Will Foley, Joseph V, and Joshua Miles; sisters Pamela Snyder (Dan) and Deborah Giles; brother Joseph Braudrick (Sue), Sisters in Law Kathy Stallings (Jerry), Judy Miles (Michelle), Brother in Law David Miles,  and a multitude of  nieces, nephews, grandnieces,  grandnephews, and God Children.

The family wants to give a special thanks and love to her caregiver of many years Susan Greene, the staff at Fresenius dialysis Center Kempsville, Dr. Ring, and the other wonderful doctors and nurses that cared for her over the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oaklette United Methodist Church, Baylake United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association (Diabetes.org).

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 7 at Altmeyer Funeral Home Southside Chapel (5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach) from 4 until 6 PM.
