Martha Sutton "Marie" Lawrence

Martha “Marie” Sutton Lawrence passed away May 3, 2021 at Sentara Leigh Hospital with family by her side. Marie was born June 16, 1926, in Aydlett, North Carolina. Marie lived most of her life in Norfolk, Virginia.

In addition to her parents Pete and Elizabeth Sutton, she is predeceased by her brother St. Claire Sutton Sr., Claude Sutton, and sister Annie Melson.
Marie is survived by her son Tommy Lawrence Jr.wife Sue of Norfolk, Virginia. Daughter, Pauline Peden of Chesapeake, Virginia, sister Libby Helkey(Terry Schuryler) of Norfolk, Virginia.
Very special granddaughter and apple of her eye Tara L. Walters and her husband Paul Walters of Norfolk, Virginia. She also leaves her grandchildren, Donna Lee, Chuck Peden of Chesapeake, Virginia, Welsey Peden of Alabama and Janet Parks of North Carolina. She also leaves behind 11 amazing great-grand children and a numerous count of great-great- grandchildren and nephews.
Marie retired from Be-Lo store #73. Marie had asked that no flowers be ordered but rather have anyone who has a slice of coconut cake to think of her. Marie was a wonderful mother and great mother-in-law(mom). She was truly loved by all and will be missed by all. God has a very special angel.

The family will receive friends and family for an evening of sharing memories and getting to reconnect with everyone who knew Marie. Please join them at Altmeyer Funeral Home-Southside Chapel (5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach) from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. For the safety and health of all attendees the family asks to please arrive wearing your mask.
