Marvill Randolph Gaddy, Sr., 74, went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2018. He was born in Bedford, Virginia to the late William and Nina Gaddy on Christmas day 1943.
Marvill graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1962 and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1964. After serving in the military for four years, he was a master HVAC mechanical contractor and owner of Marvill Gaddy Company HVAC for 35 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Leighton S. Gaddy and wife Barbara of Virginia Beach; his three children: Selena Bentz and husband Dale of Virginia Beach, Marvill R. Gaddy, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Norfolk, and Amy Guess of Virginia Beach. He is also remembered by his four grandchildren: Ashlee Renderos, Brittany Weston and husband Tommy, Joshua Guess and Rebecca Gaddy; four great-grandchildren: Thomas, Decklan, Tatiana and Micah; nephew, Michael Gaddy and wife Cary; and many cousins and friends. Special thanks to Linda Doyle, Joe Claunch, Dave Bowling, Kevin Cassidy, Larry McCullough and Bill Ackerman.
Since the early 1970s, Marvill was an enthusiastic, God-loving member of the “Friends of Bill W. Fellowship.” His spiritual journey helped countless men and women on their path to recovery. Marvill lived the 12 Steps and was a living example of the Fellowship. As a trustee at Matt Talbot Retreat Group 45, Marvill attended its biannual retreats for many years.
A visitation will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home Maestas Chapel (1801 Baltic Ave, Virginia Beach) Thursday March 15, from 5PM until 8PM. The memorial service will be the following day at Altmeyer Funeral Home Maestas Chapel, Friday, March 16, at 11 AM.
On a later date, Marvill will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Salvation Army, Hampton Roads.

Back in 1986 in a small meeting room for the sick and suffering, I met Marvill. We did not bound very well but we respected each other and our mutual desire to be better men. He showed me that we could disagree and not understand one another, but we could love each other. Many times in the past 30 years we’d meet at a recovery function and hug, give thanks and continue to grow in the fellowship of the Spirit. I know you helped me and hundreds more Marvill, go rest my brother as your love and good works will carry on.

I lost my biological father and my spiritual father last week. Marvill helped lead me through a very dark time in sobriety and I will forever be grateful to him. Always there whenever I called, I could always count on him. He is a great loss to many of the lives he touched. As a deeply spiritual man, I know he is in good hands and realize God needs him more. I love you Marvill – God Bless you and your family
