Marvin Morgan Parker, 75, passed away on Thursday, February 4, in Portsmouth, Virginia. Marvin was born on August 8, 1945 to Mardis Morgan Parker and Mildred Ruth Parker in Newnan, Georgia. He became a certified Physician’s Assistant in 1973 after graduating from the University of Nebraska Medical School through the Air Force’s Physician’s Assistant training program.
Marvin served as an Air Force medic during the Vietnam War. In 1976, he became a Master Sergeant. He worked as a Physician’s Assistant for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for 20 years. As a Physician’s Assistant with the VA, he advocated for the health and wellbeing of his patients and found it extremely rewarding to treat fellow vets.
Marvin was predeceased by his father and mother, Mardis and Ruth Parker. He is survived by Theresa Roach Parker, his wife of 38 years, daughter Emily Parker Hughes, grandson Dylan Hughes, brother Mardis Walls Parker, Sr., nephew Mardis Walls Parker, Jr., his uncle Jack Walls, and his many beloved cousins he shared great memories with through the years.
Marvin was a history buff and was especially passionate about Civil War history. He enjoyed spending quality time with his grandson and seven great nieces and nephews. Marvin had a gift for storytelling and made everything in life an adventure.
A Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m on Wednesday, February 10, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033
