Mary Jane Jarvis

June 24, 1930 - May 2, 2019

Mary Jane Jarvis, age 88, went to be with the Lord on the morning of May 2, 2019. She was born in Chilhowie, Virginia to Howard and Margie McClure.
She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 70 years, “Snooky” Jarvis; her children Donna (Kevin) Beethoven of Chesapeake and Bill Jarvis of Pennsylvania; grandchildren Dana Olah, Amanda Saab, Jamie Phelps, Christopher Jarvis, Taylor Wolfe, Sam Beethoven, Noah Beethoven; and 14 great grandchildren.
In 2005, Mary and Snooky earned The Jefferson Award for each volunteering one day a week, every week, for 41 years to organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Union Mission, Hope Haven, and several local nursing homes. They were also dedicated members of Fellowship Baptist Church in Norfolk.
Mary was the kindest soul one could meet. She knew no strangers. She was more than giving and was known for her hospitality. She gave her time as a wedding planner-never charging for the service. Her loving and compassionate nature was appreciated by so many.
In a word, she was gracious.
Mary Jane was a good and faithful servant who loved the Lord and loved her family to no end.
Family will receive friends on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Fellowship Baptist Church 4196 Glenrock Road Norfolk, Virginia 23502 from 9:00-10:30am. A funeral service will immediately follow. The graveside service will be held on the same day at Rosewood Memorial Park 631 North Witchduck Road Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462.

What our families say...

In my opinion, there is no better facility in Virginia than Altmeyer Funeral Homes. Not only was Chris Sisler there to hold my hand every step of the way, his family members were holding the door on the day of the funeral to help and encourage me. I will never forget their grace. He led me and my family through the process as a personal friend and neighbor, and as the ultimate professional.
