Mary "Molly" Katherine Greene Coburn

February 13, 1943 - June 1, 2017

NEWPORT NEWS – Mary Katherine Greene was born in February 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri. Known by all who loved her as “Molly” she was raised a military brat. She lived in California, Morocco, South Carolina, Taiwan and Virginia. She graduated from high school from Morrison Academy in Taichung, Taiwan in 1961. After Business College she joined the Nation’s space program and began a 41-year career with NASA Langley, with most of her time spent in the Scout rocket program. She rose from clerk/typist to civil service contracting officer. Her son Michael was born in 1968. She was the epitome of devoted and loving motherhood and supported her family until the very end. She especially loved her grandpa, Ed Nielson and her grandma Katherine. They and her parents, Maurice and Mary predeceased her passing. She is survived by her son and his wife Kim, and by two brothers Buz, his wife DJ, and Ed and his wife Sharon, and by her brothers’ children Robin, Shannon and Scott, as well as an aunt and five cousins. Molly was a force of nature to all whom loved her and all to whom she cared for. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite charity in her name. A celebration of her life will be held in the Fellowship Hall of Hilton Christian Church, 100 James River Drive, Newport News at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15.
