Mary Virginia Hamilton, 84 died peacefully with a crossword puzzle in her hands on October 28, 2020. She was born and raised in Norfolk, VA and she had just celebrated her 84th birthday. She was the youngest child of Foster & Ellen Hamilton. She was the first female clerk of the General District Court working with Judge Willis J. Fentress. Mary retired from the Norfolk Court System after 30 years of service. She will be fondly remembered by her love for the OBX, dogs, crossword puzzles and her church friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Foster & Ellen Hamilton, brothers, Lewis and Ralph Hamilton and sister, Ellen Hamilton. Mary is survived by nieces, Betty “Dee” Hamilton Joy (Tommy), Gail D. Aikin (Art) and nephew, Ralph Hamilton, Jr. (Yvonne), great niece, Jennifer Morgan, great nephews, Walker & John Hamilton and other great nieces and nephews. A committal service will be held privately at Forest Lawn cemetery. Due to COVID restrictions, a celebration of her life will be held at the Coastal Virginia Unitarian Universalists at a later date. Donations may be made in her memory to the Norfolk SPCA.
