Matthew Gared Steward (63) passed away Sunday August 15, 2021 in Norfolk, Virginia peacefully in his sleep. Matthew was born on October 17, 1957 to Edgar and Mary Jean Steward in Quantico, Virginia. He was a graduate of Kempsville High School.
Matthew had a magnetic smile and an Infectious laughter. He was a friend to all and never met a stranger. His love and passion for music was intense, he was an inspirational musician, a true rock and roller. He was a man of many talents throughout his life, worked for Stihl corporate for several years, business owner and caretaker but primarily musician. Matt played in several bands throughout his life notably Striker Band and Thermal Heat.
He was a father, vocalist, player of keys, and  chef. He had an adventurous spirit  and loved to travel. He was a crossword puzzle master and trivia extraordinaire. A true curator of good times. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his former wife Penny O’Connor, only daughter Teneka Steward (David Brue) two brothers Dave Steward and Joel Steward. A brother from another mother Gary Devinish two nieces Casey Anne Athey and Elizabeth Steward nephew Nathanial Steward and his grandchildren Mija Chenoweth, Ever Brookhart, and Finn Brue. Along with a host of loving friends and extended family.
A celebration of life will held from 2-5 on Saturday, November 13th  2021 at Coastal Cafe 5277 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach .
