Melba Denise Alexander was born August 5, 1953 to Enoch and Ethel Alexander. She grew up in Antioch Baptist Church Norfolk. At seventeen, she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and went on to attend Norfolk State College. There Melba became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and obtained her Bachelor’s of Science degree in political science. After college she worked in administration at the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

Melba was a caring and giving person. Some of her interests included sewing, reading and listening to music.

Melba Alexander was preceded in death by her brother Major Enoch Ambrose Alexander. She is survived by her parents, sister Camelia Langley, brother Andre Alexander and several aunts, uncles, nieces, great nieces and cousins.
