Michael “Mike” Herron passed away July 14, 2021 in (Norfolk, VA) surrounded by his loving friends.  Mike was born September 6, 1947 to (William and Anita (Ellis) Herron in Anderson, Indiana.  He was a graduate of Anderson High School in Anderson, Indiana.
Mike was a decorated soldier of the Air Force and Navy. He retired from the Navy. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Mike loved to walk along the beach and find sea glass. He also loved to sit on his favorite bench with a cup of coffee to watch the sunrise and sunset with his friends. He loved to have cookouts with his friends. He also loved to take his friend Bill’s dog Maco for walks along the beach. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve 60 and a life long member of American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Herron, Anita (Ellis) Herron, and sister Jane (Herron) Bush.
Survivors include his daughters Dawn “Micki” (Danny) Key of Pendleton, IN, Wendy (Jim) Alumbaugh of Anderson, IN, brother Bill “Larry” Herron of San Diego, CA, Sister Marcia (Herron) Crisp of Muncie, IN, grandchildren Chrisje (Jeremy Hensley) Key of Pendleton, IN, Chase (Emily) Key of Cicero, IN, Lacey (Jake) Reed of Anderson, IN Dakotah Alumbaugh of Anderson, IN, and Landon Alumbaugh of Anderson and  great-grandchildren Collin and Leah Garringer, and Hadli Reed, and several nieces and nephews, and special friends Bill Reeves, Irmi Feiler, Steve Moore, and Shirley Moore, all of Norfolk VA.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 17th from 5-8 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Dr. in Virginia Beach.

Mike was a longtime friend of my family. His friendship with us and others bring many fond memories to mind. Such a gentle spirit with a great sense if humor. You are very loved and will be greatly missed

I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know Mike very well but the little bit of time we spent talking politics and other things gave me a lot of joy and laughter. Rest in peace my friend.
