Noel passed peacefully on Sunday after a long life. She was born in Kentucky but spent most of her adult life in Virginia Beach. “Betty” was a nurse and a dedicated mother to her two sons and devoted wife to Stanley. She valued her family above all else. Betty was sensible and wise, practical and realistic. Betty’s work ethic was unrivaled. Despite her pragmatism, she always managed to be kind, gentle and empathetic as well. Betty’s quiet strength was a constant inspiration to her loved ones. She loved to travel, read, and sew. Betty was a talented gardener and was an active member and sometime president of the Linkhorn Park Garden Club for many years. She will be missed greatly, though her legacy of goodness and grit lives on.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Stanley Howard and her son Dennis Howard, as well as her parents and five siblings. Left to honor her memory are her son, Anthony Howard and daughter-in-law Millie Howard, daughter-in-law Carolyn Day Howard, granddaughter Devan Howard Dorto and husband Michael Dorto, grandson Logan Howard and wife Christina Howard, and four great grandchildren. Her family would like to extend their gratitude to Donna Claude for her loving companionship and care of Boop over the past years. A private graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider planting and nurturing something in Betty’s memory or making a donation to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad.
