Norma Louise Athey

Norma L. Athey of Virginia Beach, VA passed away on April 26, 2019 from pancreatic cancer.  She was 84.

Norma was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 15, 1934 to the late Emil and Emma Traber.  She was a first generation American born to parents who immigrated from Fellbach, Germany.

She married Forrest T. Athey, Jr. in 1970 and lived for many years in Amherst and Bedford, NH, before relocating to Virginia Beach in 2009.  Norma will be remembered for her bright smile and caring nature.  She loved traveling, playing tennis and most of all, her family.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Forrest; children David Athey of Somerville, MA, Wendy (Matthew) Dairman of Chesapeake, VA and Jackie (Charles) Anderson of Syracuse, NY; sister Loretta E. Stork of Farmingdale, NY and granddaughters Peyton and Lucy.

The family would like to express special thanks to Crystal Schmidt, longtime companion and healthcare aide.  Private burial will take place in Maple Grove Memorial Park in Kew Gardens, NY.  Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
