Raymond Elwood Bozman

Raymond Elwood Bozman of Williamsburg, VA, passed away on June 23, 2021. He was 66 years old. Ray was born to Elwood Bozman and Doris (née Baxter) and raised in Baltimore, Maryland with his two sisters, Lynne and Beverly. Ray graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1977 and served as a Navy Medical Corps officer for 30 years, retiring with the rank of Captain. He specialized in radiology and was honored as a Fellow of the American College of Radiology.

Ray was a devoted husband, father, and God-grandfather.  He was married for 44 years to Patti Bozman (née Siegel), the love of his life and his best friend since Kindergarten. They grew up together in Maryland and married at the Academy Chapel the year they both graduated from college.

Their son, Jeff, followed Ray’s example of military service.  Ray commissioned Jeff as a Marine Corps officer, and later promoted Jeff to Captain of Marines on the same day the family baptized Jeff’s Goddaughter, Maggie.

Ray’s most memorable years in the Navy were those he spent as the Commanding Officer of the Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune, where he and Patti found wonderful friendships with the Marine families. Ray learned how to golf at Lejeune and remained an avid golfer (and patient coach).

He was a generous but humble benefactor to the community throughout his life.  He particularly loved volunteering as a medical consultant for the Lewis B. Puller, Jr. Veterans Benefits Clinic at William & Mary. Ray and Jeff collaborated on many veterans’ pro bono cases, and it was a professional joy for them to work together.

In lieu of flowers, the Bozmans’ friends may make donations to the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia (foodbankonline.org), the Lewis B. Puller, Jr. Clinic, or the Armed Services Arts Partnership (asapasap.org). There will be a private family gathering to honor him and give thanks for his remarkable life.
