Rev. Fred Jackson Braswell

January 27, 1932 - October 6, 2021

Fred Braswell was born on January 27, 1932 in Albemarle, North Carolina, to the late Vick and Nettie Braswell, and went home to be with the Lord on October 6, 2021, at Brookdale Senior Living, Midlothian, Virginia.  Left to cherish his memory is his wife and helpmate of 68 years, Janet Troutman Braswell.  He is survived by a son, Rev. Freddie Braswell and his wife Wanda of Emerald Isle, North Carolina and a daughter, Jan and her husband Rev. Steve Bradshaw of Powhatan, Virginia.  He is also survived by 5 grandchildren:  Christopher Braswell and his wife Jenny, Bethany Braswell, Joshua Bradshaw and his wife Ann, Bryson Bradshaw and his wife Taylor and Hannah Bradshaw, and 4 great grandchildren:  Izzie and Winnie Braswell, Grayson and Keatyn Bradshaw.

Braswell, once a floor sander by trade, surrendered to the call of Gospel Ministry.  He was a graduate of Wingate College, Wake Forest University, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Rev. Braswell, better known as “Mr. B”, pastored at Pilot Mountain and King, Lincolnton and Bethel Hill Baptist Church, all in North Carolina.  He also served faithfully in Virginia at Greenfield Baptist Church, Gretna, and most of his ministry in Norfolk, Virginia, at Camelia Baptist Church and Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Upon retirement, the Braswells relocated and became members of Red Lane Baptist Church, Powhatan, Virginia.

Mr. B unashamedly proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ and hundreds came to trust Him and were discipled through his ministry.  Under his leadership, many yielded to vocational ministry and missions, and he was a friend and mentor to other pastors.

One of his favorite reminders to his congregation was “God is good, all the time, and all the time, God is good.”

A worship celebration will be held on Tuesday, October 12, at 6:00 PM at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Norfolk, Virginia.  Family will be available prior to the service beginning at 5:00 PM and immediately following.  A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 13, at 4:00 PM at Fairview Memorial Park, Albemarle, North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, Norfolk or Red Lane Baptist Church, Powhatan for mission endeavors.
