Rhonda Hicks, 59, recently lost her battle with cancer with her husband by her side on October 11, 2017. She knew the cancer could not be beaten, yet she fought it bravely.
Rhonda was born in Mahopac, New York on September 29, 1958 to Charlene Daniels Davis and the late Rodney L. Smith, Sr. She is survived by her mother, her devoted husband, Gregory S. Hicks, as well as, her children and grandchildren whom she adored. Her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle (Plasted) and Mike Balfe, and their daughters Emily and Olivia; her son, Jonathan Plasted and his daughter Nevaeh Lawrence; her daughter and her partner, Julia Hicks and James Gerhart, Sr., and their son James Gerhart, Jr. She was the big sister to her sisters and brother, Deana Pekarovich (Kenny); Louise Boykin (Ted); Rodney L. Smith, Jr. (Kimberly); Deborah Ajeska (Craig); and Sharon Miles (Michael). In addition, Rhonda is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and countless friends and loved-ones.
For most of her life, Rhonda was a waitress at the Warwick Restaurant in Newport News. There she worked hard to take care of many customers with a bright smile and a zeal for her co-workers.
Over the past 34 years, Rhonda and Greg have shared their compassion and helping hands with many and always did so with a central focus on their children and grandchildren. Throughout her battle with cancer, Greg was by her side as a loving care-taker.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. this Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Riverside Altmeyer Funeral Home, 7415 River Road, Newport News. The celebration of her life will also be held at Riverside Altmeyer at 12:30 p.m. Monday, October 16, 2017. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.

Rhonda was this best sister in law/aunt anyone could ever ask for. She was most incredible, and loving woman we have ever met. She was one person you could count on for everything…a smile, a laugh, support, or a shoulder to cry on. She always had a way of knowing what you needed (no matter how good you were at faking that everything was okay). She taught us all how to be strong, selfless, and caring. We haven’t been able to see anything redskins without a pain in our heart and a smile on our face thinking of how much she loved them. Saying she will be greatly missed or we will be lost without her is a huge understatement. But we know she will always be with us and watching over us as OUR GUARDIAN ANGEL.

Rhonda we love you so much and always will. Give all our other Angels a big hug and kiss from us till we see you all again.

Rhonda and I grew up together. She at the Warwick Restaurant and me on the PD. After I retired and moved back to NY, I would always make sure to visit her when I travelled to NN. Every single time she would burst into tears and give me a great big hug. I am going to miss that. RIP Rhonda. You were much loved. Prayers for your family.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all of Rhonda’s family, friends and co-workers. She was always such a Lovely, wonderful and magnificent person to know, as well as her mother, sister and brother who worked at the Warwick Restaurant. No place else could you ever receive a warmer greeting, perfect service and personal attention such as you got therefrom Rhonda. All her many years of hard work, Love and patience to her customers is what made that place what it is today. She was a Noble and Generous woman who gave of herself to everyone she knew, and everyone she met. Warwick Restaurant will never ever be the same without her, and we have lost one of our dearest friends, and I sincerely share in your sorrow.

My thoughts and prayers are with Rhonda’s family and friends. I have lost a good friend and good waitress as has so many. She was so special to so many people. She has been my waitress at WR since in the late 80s’. One thing about Rhonda,, what you ordered is what you got and she made sure it was prepared right for you. She will be missed by so many. God Bless her.
