Robert Glen "Bob" Tadlock

Robert “Bob” Glen Tadlock, 88, passed away October 31, 2017. He was born April 5, 1929 in Garden Hill Township in northern Wayne County, Illinois, where he maintained a stable of stud horses, raised grain, cattle and hogs. He attended Xenia High School for 3 years and Flora High School his senior year, graduating in 1948.
Bob always wanted to fly and soloed at the age of 17, before enlisting in the Air Force in 1950, where he trained as an aircraft mechanic and became a maintenance tech instructor. He spent 5 years with the F86D Mobile Training Detachments. During the Vietnam War, he made an in-service transfer to the Army and went to Maintenance Officers School, where he became OIC of Aircraft Hydraulic Committee at Ft. Eustis and in 1966, was ordered to the 1st Cavalry Division with the 1/9. In 1970, Robert returned to the RVN to the 110-aviation depot.
During his service, he earned many medals: National Defense Medal 1/1 OLC, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Service Star, Bronze Star, Master Aircraft Crewman Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 dev, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/palm, Meritorious Unit Citation, Air Medal, and Army Commendation Medal.
After retirement from the Army, Bob began his second career with the Newport News Shipbuilding, as a nuclear power plant inspector for 21 years on the Navy’s fast attack submarine, the 688 Los Angeles class. He also completed college at Emery Riddle College, an aeronautical university in Virginia and volunteered as a pilot and teacher for the CAP, Coast Guard Auxillary and the Virginia Defense Riddle Aeronautical Recruiting and teaching aviation ground school volunteer programs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Reba (Forth) Tadlock and daughter, Nancy Jane Dommisse.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of over 65 years, Mary Lou Tadlock; son, Terry Tadlock; sister, Nadena Jones; two granddaughters, Orion and Jessica; nephew, Gary Sloan (Judy) and their children, Vance and Keith Sloan and a host of other extended family and friends. The family extends a special thank you to caregivers, D.D., Misty, Tonya, Martina, Andrea, Reese and RN Nicky Rowe and Dr. McConaughy and Dr. Beach.
Visitation, with military honors, will be conducted from 2-3 p.m. Saturday November 18, 2017 at Altmeyer Funeral Home-Denbigh Chapel. Condolences to the family may be made at
