Robert Charles "Bob" Harnois

August 31, 1929 - December 26, 2020

Virginia Beach – Robert Charles Harnois, 91 passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 26, 2020.  To family and friends, he was known as Bob, Bobby Bear, Pop Pop and G-Pop.  Bob was born in Barre, Vermont to the late Carl Harnois and Veda Girard.  He was a veteran having served his country in the US Navy for 30 years, retiring as a Master Chief (E-9).  Once he retired from the US Navy, he took on a part time job that turned into a second career working an additional 25 years for 7-11.  In the years after fully retiring, Bob spent time with the family he loved and lived for, he spent as much time as he could fishing and ended most every day hanging out in one of his two favorite places in his home with his best friends and son in-laws talking, laughing, sharing snacks and a few cold ones.  His was a life well lived, full of adventure, travel, and personal accomplishments.  Intensely private, quiet yet commanding, with his never-ending dry sense of humor, Bob was just Bob and if you knew him, you would understand what that means.  His passing has surely left a hole in all the lives he has touched.

Bob was predeceased by his wife, Emma Harnois and siblings, Peggy Conklin, Carl Harnois, Eleanor Hoyt, and Duane Harnois.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving daughters, Sherry Harris & husband Gil; of Virginia Beach; Patricia Tolleson & husband Ed; of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Christopher Tolleson, Kaila Tolleson, Alexandra “Alex” Tolleson and Gilbert “Gibby” Harris; great grandchildren Wyatt Walker, Lennon Tolleson, Jovi Tolleson.  His dearest and lifelong friends Harry Hulderman, Tom Lambeth, Tom and Mary Moore and Virginia Hayes, his loving care giver, along with numerous other friends and family.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 31, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home Southside Chapel.  A graveside service will immediately follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Bob’s name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America

What our families say...

Altmeyer was incredible in their reliability and conscientious effort to detail. I personally worked from beginning to end with Joseph Limback. What an absolute blessing that was. From the first meeting we had a very easy communication path because Joseph took complete control to oversee our families welfare. Our family couldn’t have asked for better care and comfort of our love one.
