Robert James Lyons, may he rest in peace.

Robert James Lyons, born April 25, 1950, departed this life on Thursday, March 26, 2020, at the age of 69 years old.

In the year 2012, Robert Lyons retired from the City of Newport News, VA, after 33 years of service. At the time of his retirement, Robert’s official job title was security guard/Conservator of the Peace. Robert was especially pleased to hold the title “Conservator of the Peace.”

Robert’s favorite pastimes were playing games, watching sports on TV (mainly wrestling), and once retired, watching westerns and comedies on the MeTV channel and game shows on the Game Show Network (GSN).

Robert was watching his favorite wrestling show on Monday, March 16, 2020, when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. 911 was called and he was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center. After 10 days of intensive care treatment, Robert “departed for his heavenly destination”.

Robert Lyons leaves behind, to celebrate his life and grieve his loss, his loving mother: Mary Johnson; his loving mother-in-law: Ann Alexander, who he “adopted” as his mom, counting himself to have two real moms; a loving wife: Bobbie Lyons; a loving daughter: Anne Penrod; a loving son-in-law: David “Dave” Penrod; a loving brother: Pastor George L. “Jerry” Lyons; a loving sister-in-law: Felicia Lyons; a loving niece: April Thomas-who Robert and his wife Bobbie “adopted” as “their daughter”, so leaving behind two daughters; a loving grandson: Noah David Penrod; a loving granddaughter: Eden Joy Penrod; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family and many friends. He will be remembered affectionately by all who knew him.

Robert and Bobbie’s family extend their deepest gratitude to other family members and friends for all their prayers, kindnesses evidenced in the calls, thoughtful remarks and concern they’ve received, and “gifts of love”.

Robert will be laid to rest at Hampton Memorial Gardens, 155 Butler Farm Rd, Hampton, VA.
