Rose Elizabeth Childress

February 12, 1934 - September 12, 2020

Rose Childress, 86, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 12th, 2020 in Virginia Beach, Virginia surrounded by her loving family. Rose was born on February 12th, 1934 to Russell and Verona Bounds in Somerset, Maryland. Rose was known for her outgoing personality and infectious laugh. She enjoyed her former career in hospitality, as she loved working closely with others to help create wonderful memories. Many may especially remember her from time at Denny’s, where she worked passionately for almost 20 years. Rose appreciated the little things in life by starting every morning with a hot cup of coffee and a cozy blanket and ending each day telling you she loved you. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, coloring, reading, gardening, and cooking. In fact, her macaroni and cheese was always a requirement for the family on each holiday, as “no one else’s could ever compare.” Rose was a true example of what it meant to be a strong and fearless fighter. She was an inspiration to others and loved deeply by many. Her everlasting support and care towards everyone she met was truly incredible. Rose’s family and friends were her everything. She was predeceased by her parents, children Larry and Russell, as well as her grandchildren Amelia and Daniel. Left to cherish her memory are her children Patricia and husband Larry, Carol, Michael and wife Nancy and Richard; daughter-in-law Carmen; grandchildren Cody, Melody, Brian, Casey, Jackie, Ashley, William, Beth, Frances, and Mary; many great grandchildren; close friends Betty, Floyd, Carol, Audrey, Kayla, Weston, and many others. A service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 18th, 2020 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Dr., Virginia Beach. Condolences may be left for the family below.
