Ruby Gallop Johnson was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 6, 2018.
A native of Wanchese, North Carolina, Ruby was the daughter of the late Elton F. Gallop, Sr. and Iris Williams Gallop. She graduated from Manteo High School in 1957 and DePaul School of Nursing three years later.
She married Walter Douglas Johnson on November 11, 1961. She was devoted to her family, loved nursing, and over her life she touched thousands of lives. She retired from Sentara LifeCare as Director of Nursing.
As an active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church since 1961, Ruby was a member of the Knights of Columbus Lady’s Auxiliary and the Sunshine Club.
She will forever be remembered by her husband of 57 years, Walter D. Johnson; daughter, Denise K. Morin and husband Neil; son, Stephen D. Johnson and wife Mary P. Johnson and daughters Lori M. Johnson and Paula J. Weaver. Ruby also leave to cherish her memory her 11 grandchildren, David W. and Sarah Miles, Mary, Moriah, Robert, and Amanda Grant; Matthew, Alexander and Jennifer Weaver and Elizabeth and James Johnson; 3 great-grandchildren Olivia and Madison Grant and Charles Oscar Weaver and many, many others.
A funeral mass will be held for Ruby on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 3314 Sandra Lane in Virginia Beach. After the mass there will be a reception at the church. Immediately following the reception, inurnment will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, 3000 Church Street in Norfolk.
